# Hot Work Permit Trigger Matrix

Use this matrix before welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, soldering, torch-on roofing or temporary heating.

Site rules may require a hot work permit even when the legal duty is framed more broadly as fire-risk control.

| Trigger | Permit Position | Minimum Checks To Record |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Open flame or torch-on work | Permit normally expected | Combustibles removed or protected, extinguishers present, fire watch agreed |
| Cutting or grinding producing sparks | Permit normally expected | Spark path checked, screens fitted, dust or flammable vapours controlled |
| Hot work in roof void, riser, plant room or service duct | Permit strongly expected | Hidden voids checked, service penetrations protected, post-work inspection |
| Work near flammable liquids, gas cylinders or combustible storage | Permit and isolation controls expected | Storage moved, cylinders secured, ignition sources controlled |
| Work in occupied premises | Permit or documented client approval expected | Occupier interface, alarms, escape routes and communication agreed |
| Temporary heaters or drying equipment | Permit or fire-risk approval may be required | Heater type, clearances, ventilation and supervision recorded |
| Hot work after normal site hours | Permit and management approval expected | Fire watch, security handover and emergency contact confirmed |
